Why didn’t officials hold a teleconference instead of taking their private jets to Copenhagen?

If this is such an "emergency" and a real threat, why would they waste all that fuel to emit tons of CO2 into the air? They could have done the same thing in their home countries and set an example, rather they prove that they are lying hypocrites.
